FAQ
Your questions
Can’t find what you need? WhatsApp us on +27 82 555 0147 — we answer from town, usually within a day.
Can my normal sedan car get to Kloofwater?
Yes. The last stretch is a well-kept 3 km farm road — slow and steady is all it needs.
Can we drink the water in the taps?
Yes. The water comes from a natural spring on the mountain and is coloured by the rocks and vegetation. If you’re concerned, boil it, use the filtered rain water provided, or bring your own drinking water.
What appliances are in the kitchen?
An electric fridge-freezer and a gas stove and oven. Because the solar system is deliberately small there is no electric kettle, toaster, microwave or dishwasher — boil water on the gas stove.
Is there Wi-Fi or cell signal?
No — neither. It’s a true digital detox. The solar system will charge phones and laptops; download maps and music before you arrive.
Can I bring my dog or cat?
Unfortunately pets aren’t allowed, because of the wildlife on the property.
Are children welcome?
Yes, all ages are welcome. Children must be supervised by an adult near the river at all times.
Is it safe to swim in the river?
In summer, when water levels are lower, the river pools are safe for swimming. Children should always be supervised and accompanied by an adult. Guests swim at their own risk.
What hikes can we access from the cabins?
The farm’s own trails start at the cabin door — up the kloof, along the river and onto the ridge. The Overberg’s nature reserves and botanical gardens are an easy drive. Hiking maps are provided in the cabins.
Are there baboons around?
Yes — a resident troop lives in the valley. They’re still wild and haven’t discovered human food, unlike the “town” baboons of the coastal villages. Please lock all doors and windows when you go out.
Where is the nearest shop?
The nearest shops and petrol station are in the village, about 15 minutes’ drive away.
When is the best time of year to visit?
Summer is the dry season, with long days in the river, on the beaches and in the mountains. The flowers are magnificent all year, but what’s in flower changes: proteas are best in May, June and July (when winter is cold, wild, windy and wet); spring is pincushion season; ericas grace the mountains from spring to summer.
How do payment and confirmation work?
Send a booking request and we’ll reply by email with written confirmation and banking details. A 50% deposit within 48 hours secures your dates; the balance is due 14 days before arrival. Bookings made within 14 days of arrival are paid in full.
What is the minimum stay?
Two nights, up to a maximum of 30. Over the festive season (arrivals 14 December – 6 January) the minimum is four nights.
Can we have a braai or fire outside?
No. Fire is a serious threat to the endangered fynbos, so braais and outdoor fires aren’t permitted. Each cabin has an indoor wood-burning fireplace, with a complimentary bundle of firewood.
